Wilson Creek Manor at Wilson Creek Winery
Temecula Valley estate manor let whole, on one of the valley's landmark wineries
Why guests love Wilson Creek Manor at Wilson Creek Winery
Almond sparkling wine made this winery famous, and it is still the bottle most Temecula visitors leave with. Wilson Creek has been a family operation on Rancho California Road for decades, running estate vineyards, a large tasting room, a restaurant and one of the busiest event calendars in the valley — the marine draft through the Rainbow Gap keeps enough acidity in the fruit for the sparkling programme to work at this latitude. Staying here means access to all of that at close range: tasting flights, vineyard walks, and regenerative-agriculture tours that explain how the farming actually works rather than gesturing at it. The tasting room takes the volume of a landmark property, so early slots are calmer and weekday visits are calmer still, and the estate rows are walkable straight from the house rather than a drive away. Guests who want the wine side seriously should book the tour rather than only the bar. The lodging itself needs stating plainly, because it is not a hotel. Wilson Creek Manor is an eleven-thousand-square-foot house in the middle of the estate, sold as a whole-property rental through AvantStay rather than by the room. Ten bedrooms sleep around twenty behind a ballroom entrance that opens onto a grand salon with a twenty-four-seat dining table, and a sixteen-hundred-square-foot dressing suite was built with wedding parties in mind. Nine of the bedrooms carry in-room spa tubs. Outside there is a pool, a hot tub, a patio grill and bar, several fire pits, a bocce court, life-size chess and gardens; indoors, a games room with billiards, ping pong, shuffleboard and foosball. Creekside Grille handles dining on the winery side with a seasonal, locally sourced menu, and dogs are welcome on the winery grounds. This works as a group property — a family gathering, a milestone birthday, a wedding party — rather than a couples' weekend, and the pricing reflects a whole estate rather than a room. Harvest runs from August into early October and is the most atmospheric window on the estate; spring brings the mildest weather across the valley; and Old Town Temecula is ten minutes west when the house needs a night off. Holiday weekends book out a long way ahead.
